Building on Basics Grazing Field Day

Explore row crop grazing with virtual fencing at IFGC field day

PRINCEVILLE, Ill. — Farmers looking to expand their livestock operation can learn the benefits of producer-tested practices at the Building on Basics Grazing Field Day. The event begins at 9 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 7 at the Derek and Windy Menold Farm near Princeville, Ill.

The Illinois Forage and Grassland Council field day will feature three main discussions: integrating cattle into row crop grazing systems, using virtual fencing to create invisible boundaries for grazing, and uncovering new financing and resource networks.

“Sustainable grazing practices enhance soil health while providing economic benefits to farmers,” says IFGC secretary Keely Wilcoxen. “Healthier pastures lead to more forage and better livestock productivity, improved livestock health, and reduced input costs.”

Register online or contact the Fulton County Farm Bureau at 309-547-3011 or fultonfb@att.net. A free ribeye sandwich lunch will be provided.

Co-sponsors include the Illinois Grazing Lands Coalition, Fulton County Farm Bureau, Peoria County Farm Bureau, and Nofence.

The farm is located at 15711 W. Brooks Road, Princeville.
